Eilean Shona House

Eilean Shona House

Sleeps 18 people

The classic Scottish façade of Eilean Shona House, designed by the celebrated architect Robert Lorimer, conceals a wealth of entertaining and living space. The interiors are comfortable and quirky, rather than formal and traditional, combining the luxury of a boutique hotel with the charm of a family home. Both the house and the breathtakingly beautiful island provide the perfect venue for family celebrations, Christmas and New Year parties, executive team-building trips, well-being and creative retreats, or gatherings with friends. Visit for a weekend break or longer and transport yourselves back to a time when the stars shone bright in black skies, and the only sound in the clear air was of rushing streams and bird song.

The house has 9 bedrooms (7 doubles and 2 twins), sleeping up to 18. Each bedroom has its own character with furniture and artwork of note. Serving these bedrooms there are 6 bathrooms (3 ensuite) and 1 shower room. All the bed linen, towels and robes are of the finest quality Egyptian cotton.

Although large, the house is snug, insulated by thick, well-built walls and centrally heated by a solid wood boiler supplemented with four glowing open fires. The iconic dining room, painted by the Glaswegian artist Fred Pollock, comfortably seats up to 20 people but the impressive dining table can also have a leaf or two removed for smaller parties. The library has a full size billiards table, dartboard, and large selection of board games, plus a well-stocked range of books to refer to and enjoy during your stay. The drawing room is light and comfortable with an open fire, sofas, a seated alcove with magnificent views of the loch, a grand piano and a selection of works from emerging and established international artists. The large and very well-equipped country style kitchen has three pantries, a huge catering fridge, freezer and smaller day fridge, ice making machine, AGA and gas/electric cooker, super catering dishwasher, good quality knives, boards, dishes etc.

House stays can be either self or fully catered, making your stay as luxurious and stress-free as possible. Food, wine and whisky are an important part of the Eilean Shona experience and we work with exceptional chefs serve wholesome, locally sourced meals. You’ll experience hearty home cooked breakfasts to set you up for the day, delicious lunches enjoyed in the house or taken to the beach, and three course suppers to round off your day of adventuring. The surrounding sea provides the freshest delights, from homegrown mussels cooked on the beach to ice cold, fresh oysters shucked with the sand between your toes. All meals are prepared with much thought and always with our ethos of sustainability in mind.

We have an outstanding range of wines and spirits to complement your meals and are proud to supply our own Eilean Shona branded whisky made in the Ardamurchan Distillery, along with Sapling vodka and gin, a sustainable English spirits company, co-founded by Ivo, one of the island guardians.

The team is here to discuss your preferences, so each meal — from breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea to dinner — will be memorable. Our chefs' menus are seasonal and bespoke to your requirements.

For those wanting to make their island stay truly extraordinary, we also offer a range of gloriously extravagant dining experiences. Feasts can take place on the white sands of Shoe Bay, at the picturesque fire pit overlooking Castle Tioram, in our rustic Picnic Bothy or in the cosy Village Hall (which is great for dancing!). Whether a roasted ham in front of roaring fires in the Picnic Bothy, or a bounty of fresh fish cooked over the fire with views of Castle Tioram at sunset, guests who opt for these unique events can expect a sumptuous spread in a simply magical location.

The house is available to rent for a minimum of three nights. And of course well-behaved dogs are always welcome. In the summer months, there are ticks in the long grass and we highly recommend you give your dog tick treatment before arrival.

Price and availability on application, request a brochure or contact us directly on 0750 677 2539 or contact@eileanshona.com to book.
